His rise to the top was legendary in terms of the dues that he paid en route to eventually running the station. He started as a news reporter, eventually being promoted to news director and later VP and GM.

Under Beauchamp’s leadership, WBAL Radio earned 19 national Edward R. Murrow awards. Reporter Scott Wykoff shared his admiration for Beauchamp in a Facebook post after learning about his death.

“Jeff and former WBAL Radio VP/GM Ed Kiernan and former WBAL Radio News Director Mark Miller forever changed my life when they brought me to WBAL and gave me the opportunity to cover the Preakness and the countless stories associated with Thoroughbred racing at Pimlico, Laurel Park and at farms across Maryland,” said Wykoff.

“Jeff had a true appreciation for what racing and the horse industry meant to our listeners as he grew up a racing fan and spent many a happy afternoon at the track with his father.”
