A man who was acquitted for the deadly shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin, said he plans to sue news organizations for defaming him.
On Monday, Kyle Rittenhouse told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that his legal team has launched the Media Accountability Project. Rittenhouse said the project is a “tool to help fundraise and hold the media accountable for lies.”
“I don’t want to see anybody else have to deal with what I went through,” he told Tucker Carlson, adding that he is looking “at quite a few politicians, celebrities, athletes, Whoopi Goldberg’s on the list.”
Rittenhouse zeroed in on “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg who” called him a “murderer” despite a not guilty verdict.
Rittenhouse was charged with criminal counts including first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide. The shootings killed two men and injured a third on Aug. 25, 2020.
“We’re going to hold everybody who lied about me accountable, such as everybody who lied and called me a white supremacist,” added Rittenhouse.
Rittenhouse also vowed to sue Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur. However, Adrienne Lawrence, an attorney and host on “The Young Turks,” said in a tweet after Rittenhouse’s interview: “Did someone call Rittenhouse a ‘convicted murderer’?
“Because, to my knowledge, you can be a murderer factually, even if you’re legally acquitted. An acquittal doesn’t really change that one murdered another,” she added.
Furthermore, during an appearance on Drew Hernandez’s YouTube show Frontlines, Rittenhouse said he would also be suing Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James, saying, “[James will] be getting a letter, too.”
“Anybody who defamed me or lied about me, we’re just going to send them a letter and then deal with them in a courtroom,” Rittenhouse said.
