Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time for reflection for millions of people around the U.S. Fox Business Network’s Gerri Willis is one of several survivors at the network sharing her hope this year.
On Tuesday, Willis brought Mount Sinai’s Mobile Mammography truck for the women at Fox News. The truck has all the technology to detect breast cancer. The project has been an undertaking that Willis spearheaded with the network’s HR department.
Willis was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer back in 2016. She shared the news about the truck and her diagnosis and subsequent recovery on “Fox & Friends.”
“Six months before my diagnosis I had a clear mammogram, you’ve got to get tested,” said Willis. “Some of these cancers are incredibly fast-spreading.”
Co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy told Willis that she had never thought of getting a mammogram. Duffy later added that she made an appointment to get a check-up after speaking with Willis.
“The reality is that the number of screenings going on after COVID is still down 15 percent,” she added.
Other Fox News personalities like Jackie DeAngelis, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2021, Jennifer Griffin, who is a Breast Cancer survivor, and Dagen McDowell, who lost her mother to Breast Cancer all discussed the importance of early and regular screenings and why it is important to highlight the women that support and care for each other while battling this disease.
According to Cancer.org, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancers. It is about 30% (or 1 in 3) of all new female cancers each year.
