Geraldo Rivera, a well-known personality among Fox News viewers, recently gave his opinion on the actions of former President Donald Trump following the 2020 presidential election. On Wednesday, Rivera tweeted a video that accused Trump of disrupting the peaceful power transfer by denying the election results.
He prefaced the video by saying that the conversation had been in the news, presumably about Rupert Murdoch’s recent testimony in the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit.
During the trial, Murdoch, the chairman of Fox News, acknowledged that leading anchors at the network propagated unfounded allegations regarding the election. Fox News refuted Dominion’s lawsuit, arguing that it violated the First Amendment and prioritized sensationalism over factual thoroughness. Fox News also claimed that Dominion’s efforts to attack their reporting of allegations made by a US President were apparent.
Rivera, who had previously supported Trump, said he no longer did so. He had supported Trump through the 2020 election and considered him a friend of many years. However, Rivera stated that he stopped supporting Trump when it became clear that he denied the truth of the election. Rivera was consistent in his stance, reporting Trump’s impeachment for inciting and unleashing the riot on Jan 6.
Fox News star Sean Hannity spoke about the 2020 election, stating that his problem with it was the state laws. Hannity said that he had talked about laws being violated and pointed out that most states had rules that partisan observers get to watch the vote count from start to finish. Hannity also addressed a caller on his radio show who accused Fox News of election denialism.
Rivera stated that he had informed Trump that he had lost the election a week after election day and that it was time to recognize the obvious gracefully. Rivera expressed relief that the Senate did not convict Trump in the impeachment, and he had left office by then anyway. He pledged never to support Trump again, citing Trump’s attack on the electoral system and the peaceful power transfer.
