Twitter has undergone several changes since Elon Musk took over the social media platform. There’s been a change to the verification system in which anyone who pays for Twitter Blue can receive the blue checkmark formerly reserved for verified users.
However, a change on the horizon might force users to decide whether to stay and use Musk’s platform or head elsewhere. Bloomberg’s Dave Lee relayed the information that the Tesla CEO is considering revisiting a previous idea, putting Twitter behind a paywall.
“We’ve moving to a small monthly payment for use of the X system,” Musk told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The reason for a potential paywall? Musk believes it’s the only way to stamp out bots. There are no further details on how much a user would need to pay to access the outlet if it went behind a paywall.
Nonetheless, this isn’t the first time Musk has floated this idea. Early on in his takeover, the 52-year-old reportedly mentioned that he could put the platform behind a paywall.
If you purchase Twitter Blue in your web browser, it costs $8 per month for a monthly plan or $7 per month for the annual plan. But, if you sign up through the iOS or Android app, it will cost a user $11 monthly.
As a result, expect something lower than that price should Elon Musk proceed with his paywall plans.
