Todd Starnes: Conservative News Outlets Shouldn’t Be Involved in Speaker Race

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) lost his first round of voting to become the next speaker of the House on Tuesday. As a result, Todd Starnes likely took a shot at Fox News for their reported attempt to push Jordan into becoming the next speaker.

Here’s more context as to why Starnes’ jab at the conservative media probably refers to Fox News. Recently, multiple outlets reported that Fox News host Sean Hannity was actively working behind the scenes to nudge moderate Republicans along and vote for Jordan.

Axios’ Capitol Hill reporter Juliegrace Brufke reported that moderate Republicans were “growing increasingly irritated” with the pressure from Jordan supporters, noting emails sent by a Hannity producer as an example.

Back to Starnes and his subtweet, after it was revealed that Jordan lost his first round of voting, the radio host went on X, formerly Twitter, to share his thoughts on the situation.

“When a major conservative television network decides it has the power to handpick the House Speaker — well, you see how well that is going today,” Starnes wrote on X.

According to NBC News, Jordan will need 218 votes to become speaker of the house and only got 200 on the first ballot.
