Owners of KTAE The Horn in Austin, Texas have announced the station, as well as country station KOKE, will become digital only beginning on Saturday, June 1. Norsan Media announced in mid-April it would acquire both stations from Genuine Austin Radio. Norsan has been operating two other signals in the market which are owned by GAR.
Norsan Media operates Spanish language stations across the Carolinas and in Florida but have not said what they plan to do with the two signals.
In a release, the company said in part, “We are thrilled to announce a transformative evolution for The HORN and KOKE-FM. Starting June 1, 2024, we will be transition from terrestrial over-the-air radio frequencies to an exclusive focus on our thriving digital streaming platforms.
This strategic decision underscores our dedication to embracing the future of media consumption and delivering the most innovative and accessible content experiences to our advertisers and loyal audience.
By harnessing the power of our digital platforms, we will reach a broader, more diverse audience, offering them unparalleled access to our unique, high-quality programming anytime, anywhere. This shift allows us to adapt to the rapidly changing media landscape and maintain our leadership in providing exceptional content to our valued listeners and advertising partners.”
The Horn was previously the home of Texas Longhorns athletics and had been carrying Texas Rangers baseball. Most of the station programming during the day is national, with the exception of The Rodcast with Rod Babers and Patrick Davis which airs in morning drive.
