The National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation (NABLF) has awarded the Service to America Award to WBAL NewsRadio in Baltimore.
The station was bestowed the honor in the first Informers category. The award comes after the station played a pivotal role in informing the public about the breaking news situation in 2024 as the Francis Scott Keye Bridge was struck by a container ship and toppled in the early morning hours of March 26th.
“This year, WBAL NewsRadio is celebrating 100 years of service to the citizens of Baltimore — making the honor of earning a Service to America Award even more special,” said WBAL-TV and Radio President/General Manager Dan Joerres. “For the past century, WBAL NewsRadio has been the leading source of news and information for our listeners, while providing far-reaching community service. We look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence well into the future.”
“WBAL NewsRadio has a longstanding reputation in Baltimore as the radio station the community turns to for breaking news,” said Director of Programming/News Director Jeff Wade. “This recognition is validation of that reputation and speaks to the dedication of our entire team, who worked tirelessly to deliver vital information to our audience.”
The award is the latest in a long line of honors given to the station in recent months. Recently, the Hearst news/talk station won the National Headliner Award for best newscast in 2025.
