Robert Griffin III is expected to be joining FOX Sports as their No. 2 college football game analyst, following his dismissal from ESPN in August of last year. According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, Griffin would step in for Brock Huard, following Huard announcing he would be leaving his role with FOX to coach his son’s high school football team.
Griffin was laid off last year with a reported two years remaining on his deal with ESPN. However, according to the report, Griffin would be allowed to join FOX Sports and would not be blocked from joining the network.
After a short-lived career in the NFL—following his Heisman Trophy win while playing at Baylor—Griffin joined ESPN in 2021. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually working on their Monday Night Football pregame show, while also serving as one of ESPN’s lead college football analysts.
Following Griffin’s dismissal from ESPN, he joined The Jim Rome Show just weeks after the news broke and expressed optimism about his return to broadcasting.
“Hopefully the fans will continue to support us and have fun as we make our way through this tough time,” Griffin told Jim Rome last August. “But we’ll be back, and we’ll be back and better in no time.”
Furthermore, according to The Athletic, Griffin’s focus in his new role will be solely as a game analyst for broadcasts, with the potential for some appearances on FOX’s studio programming as well.
In addition to his television work, Griffin launched a podcast with Wave Sports + Entertainment in 2023, which has since been rebranded to Outta Pocket with RG3. He played eight seasons in the NFL after being selected second overall by Washington in the 2012 NFL Draft and was named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year during that same season.
