Scott Hanson Says His Contract Negotiations Are Still Ongoing With NFL Media

“The NFL has told me they want me back. I certainly want to be back as host of RedZone."

Date:

Scott Hanson has been the host of the wildly popular NFL RedZone since it began in 2009. However, he is currently without a contract. According to several sources, Hanson’s agreement with NFL Media expired at the end of the NFL season. Meanwhile, although there have been reports that Hanson has talked with several other networks, including NBC, he has yet to land his next contract.

Speaking with Yahoo Sports at the NFL Draft in Green Bay, Hanson said that he is in talks right now.

“Many people are speculating. There have been reports; some inaccurate, some semi-accurate out there,” said Hanson. “All I can share with you is negotiations are ongoing.”

Last year, Hanson worked with NBCUniversal and Peacock’s coverage of the Paris Olympic Games as lead host of their Gold Zone programming, which showcased the highlights from the day’s action. Moreover, the RedZone-esque show was very well received by President of NBC Molly Shannon, who told Front Office Sports in September of last year that Hanson had “inimitable enthusiasm and energy” hosting the Gold Zone programming.

Additionally, Hanson said that his hopes are to stay doing what he’s been doing for the last 16 years with the National Football League.

“The NFL has told me they want me back. I certainly want to be back as host of RedZone, 16 seasons of what’s been called the greatest football show there is,” said Hanson to Yahoo Sports. “We have to come to an agreement and we’re not there yet, but negotiations are ongoing and I’m very hopeful.”

In the meantime, while Hanson awaits what his new agreement may be, a report by John Ourand of PUCK Media from February stated that ESPN and the NFL are resuming talks about a possible takeover by the network to oversee NFL Network and NFL RedZone.

Hanson joined NFL Media in 2006 as a national reporter covering all thirty-two teams. Subsequently, he transitioned into studio hosting in 2008 before becoming the face of NFL RedZone.
