KCBS Reporter Doug Sovern to Retire

After 35 years at KCBS, political reporter Doug Sovern has announced he will retire from the Audacy San Francisco all-news station at the end of the month.

“After 40 years on the radio in San Francisco, the last 35 on (KCBS), I’m retiring to write books, make music & raise my kids,” Sovern shared on social media. “My last show hosting #StateOfCA will be next Wednesday, April 30, 3:30pm. Thanks for a most extraordinary, exhilarating & unexpected career!”

Sovern has worked at the all-news station since 1990. The 64-year-old turned his focus to politics at the station in 2006. He has hosted the daily State of California interview segment and podcast since 2020.

In total, he’s spent 40 years in the Bay Area, previously working a K101 as a news anchor and reporter before joining 810 KGO.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Doug Sovern has won 250 journalism awards, including an award in his district as the Best Reporter in Radio by the Associated Press Television and Radio Association.
