Stan Van Gundy Added To Amazon Prime Video NBA Coverage: Report

"I really want to be working, and I would love it to still be in the NBA,”

Date:

Former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy will be headed to join Amazon Prime Video’s coverage of the NBA as the streaming video network begins its 11-year agreement with the league. According to a report in The New York Times, Van Gundy will join Ian Eagle on Prime Video’s telecasts as part of the top play-by-play team on the network.

Since 2019, Van Gundy has been serving in a dual role with TNT Sports, calling games from the analyst position for both the network’s NBA coverage and the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

However, according to the report, it is still undetermined if Van Gundy will continue in that role.

At 65 years old, Van Gundy brings significant coaching experience, having served as a head coach in the NBA for thirteen seasons. His career includes tenures in Miami, Orlando, Detroit, and New Orleans. Additionally, he has served as a president of basketball operations and is the older brother of former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy.

In a recent episode of The Varsity Podcast hosted by Jon Ourand, he discussed what he hopes to do once his current deal with TNT Sports expires.

“I hope to be working, I really want to be working, and I would love it to still be in the NBA,” Van Gundy said. “It’s what I know best, it’s what I think I do best. And I’m hoping that will work out with somebody.”

Looking ahead, starting next season, NBA games will be televised by The Walt Disney Company, Comcast Corporation, and Amazon. This new media rights agreement is reportedly worth $76 billion and will distribute games across broadcast, cable television, and streaming platforms.

In preparation, Amazon has already begun crafting its NBA roster of on-air talent. Notably, the company has signed Taylor Rooks as its lead studio host, along with former NBA players Blake Griffin and Dirk Nowitzki as pregame and postgame analysts. Furthermore, Cassidy Hubbarth has been signed to join the network as a sideline reporter.

Moreover, according to the report, Amazon has already begun discussions with other prominent names such as Kevin Harlan, Michael Grady, Dwyane Wade, and Steve Nash.
