Rock 92 morning show 2 Guys Named Chris is about to be down a “Chris”, as longtime host Chris Demm has announced plans to retire from the station later this year.
Demm has been paired with Chris Kelly for the past 27 years in morning drive on the Greensboro rock station. He shared that he’ll retire “in late March”, without a firm date announced.
“I’m walking away from the best job I could have ever imagined,” Demm said in his announcement. “And I’m leaving behind a partner who’s been beside me for 27 years. That’s a lifetime.”
He added that the decision to leave the show and station isn’t one he made without the considering all angles.
“It is not a decision that I made lightly, and it’s not a decision I made without deep reflection,” he shared. “But it is the proper time to exit. I could have done the show forever, honestly. But radio is a business, and things don’t always work out the way you want them to.”
Chris Demm, 64, told WFMY News2 that the stars aligned to make now the right time to exit.
“The timing just seemed to work out right for my wife and me,” said Demm. “The decision was not an easy one. We talked about it a lot. There have been a lot of internal discussions at the radio station. I’m at peace with the decision. Honestly, I am.”

I was in Camp LeJeune in 1984-89 as a teenager. I recall WXQR getting an new DJ, that would actually play Rush. That was a big deal to us. Demm taught an entire group of us how to appreciate different kinds of music. in 89, I moved to Durham and soon afterwards found WRDU. I was shocked and pleased to hear the familiar voice of Chris Demm, welcoming me to a new town and introducing me to new music.
I went off to serve shortly thereafter and when I returned to NC, I moved and settled in Mebane, where I was once again greeted by the legendary voice of the legend himself, Chris Demm on a new morning show. I’ve been listening ever since. Mr. Demm, thank you for being an ever-present voice of sardonic wisdom and an educator in the art of music for all of us, and for me personally for 40 years.
