550 WGR Launches FM Simulcast Replacing 107.7/104.7 The Wolf

"The format change occurred overnight, transitioning both 107.7 FM and translator 104.7 FM from country music to a full-time simulcast of WGR."

Date:

Audacy Sports 550 WGR has officially expanded to the FM dial beginning this morning with a full simulcast on 107.7 and 104.7 in Buffalo after flipping the former Country outlet known as The Wolf. The format change occurred overnight, transitioning both 107.7 FM and translator 104.7 FM from country music to a full-time simulcast of WGR, which continues to brand primarily around its 550 AM frequency while on-air talent has begun acknowledging the added FM signals.

The flip ends the run of 107.7/104.7 The Wolf, which debuted in June 2021 and featured a local morning show hosted by Liz Mantel alongside nationally syndicated country programming throughout the remainder of the broadcast day.

According to reports, Mantel will remain with the Audacy Buffalo cluster as Promotions Director, maintaining a role within the market despite the format transition.

From a strategic standpoint, the FM simulcast strengthens WGR’s competitive position at a pivotal time for the station and the broader Buffalo sports landscape. The Buffalo Bills announced plans to depart WGR, and the co-owned Buffalo Sabres are also expected to move their broadcasts at the conclusion of the current season.

The teams will produce and distribute its radio broadcasts for preseason, regular season, and playoff broadcasts beginning with next season. It will work with Good Karma Brands to build its content plans going forward. Along with the move, the daily show One Bills Live also moved to in-house production and exited WGR 550 and 950 The Fan in Rochester. The show is now streamed on BuffaloBills.com, the Buffalo Bills app, and will continue to simulcast on MSG Western New York.

WGR 550 has served as the radio flagship of the Buffalo Bills for the past 14 seasons. It is unclear where the NFL franchise will place its radio broadcasts beginning with the 2026 season.

Ultimately, the launch of WGR’s FM simulcast on 107.7 and 104.7 marks both a brand extension and a strategic shift. The move reflects broader industry migration trends toward FM distribution. It also ensures Buffalo’s longtime sports voice reaches listeners with greater clarity. Coverage will now expand across Western New York.

  1. This stinks. We lost the best country music station as well as the Sunday morning country oldies program. I miss it.

    • I totally agree with you Sue. The WOLF was a much better format than that other station just down the radio dial that has been stagnant for years……
