Beasley Media Group has elevated longtime contributor Paul Kelly to morning host at classic rock outlet 102.9 WMGK. Kelly will take over the 6–10 a.m. slot beginning December 1, 2025. He succeeds Matt Cord as part of a broader lineup shuffle which saw Cord transition to middays at WMMR-FM beginning December 1.
Kelly is no stranger to WMGK listeners. He joined the station in March 2019 as a “designated hitter,” filling in on weekends, holidays, and open shifts.. His familiarity with both the brand and the city made him a natural internal candidate. Moreover, the role carries added meaning for the Philadelphia native, who grew up visiting the MGK studios on his bike.
“This has been a dream come true — rocking in the same building I visited on my bike as a kid,” Kelly said in a statement. “It’s been amazing working alongside the personalities I grew up listening to — Matt Cord, Tony Harris, John DeBella, Debbi Calton, and Andre Gardner.”
Before arriving at MGK, Kelly built a broad resume across multiple Northeast markets. He launched his on-air career in 1989 at WZXL in Atlantic City eventually holding a variety of roles in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Scranton, and Poughkeepsie. Throughout his career, Kelly served as a morning host, afternoon drive anchor, imaging and production director, and program director. In 2001, he pivoted into research and operations, joining Philadelphia-based Kelly Music Research, Inc. as vice president and operations manager.
He also helped found Kelly Music For Life, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes concerts, festivals, and arts programs in Haverford Township. The organization also operates The Kelly Center in Havertown, which supports music education and community initiatives.
Beasley Philadelphia Vice President and Market Manager Paul Blake said Kelly’s history with the station — and the city — made the decision straightforward.
“Paul Kelly is the perfect fit to lead mornings at WMGK,” Blake said. “He has been a trusted and versatile part of our family for six years. As a Philadelphia native who grew up listening to this station, he truly understands MGK’s heritage.”
Program Director Chuck Damico agreed, adding that Kelly delivers the authenticity and enthusiasm crucial to one of the market’s most enduring morning dayparts.
“Paul’s deep Philadelphia roots. His lifelong love of classic rock, and the genuine connection he’s built with our listeners over the years make him the ideal choice,” Damico said. “He understands this city, this music, and he brings an energy that resonates every time he cracks the mic.”
