The Atlanta broadcasting community is mourning the loss of former radio host Kara Stockton, who passed away at 44 on Friday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution spoke to Stockton’s brother, Rob, who wasn’t sure about the cause of death but said the family will request an autopsy.

Stockton reportedly had her gallbladder removed at the end of January. At the time, Rob said, the doctor found her liver to be enlarged. “Me and my mom are still in total shock and can’t really believe it’s real,” he told the paper.

Stockton spent five years at the now-defunct News Talk 106.7. Upon learning about the news, former co-worker Shannon Burke reacted with great sadness. “I am crushed.”

Stockton had worked as a producer for the daily radio and TV show “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace. “We are all upset,” Grace said. “I loved working with her so much. She was awesome. She had been unwell, and we kept after her to go to the hospital. We are waiting on answers now.”

Last month, Stockton shared her health concerns on Facebook.

“I’m back in the hospital. I can’t sit up or down or walk on my own,” she posted.  “They don’t think it’s any complication from the gallbladder surgery, but they’re not sure … is going on. All I know is major pain, and I’m going to be here for a while. Prayers please!”

The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Marietta.
