EverPass Media has reached a commercial distribution agreement with Netflix for the two National Football League Christmas Day games being presented on the streaming platform. The agreement enables EverPass to have the commercial distribution rights for these matchups, which will be available to stream through the EverPass platform. Moreover, this deal continues an expansion of the EverPass sports portfolio within the NFL, which includes out-of-market CBS and FOX Sunday afternoon games, the Thursday Night Football package on Prime Video and NFL Sunday Ticket.

Netflix and the National Football League signed a three-season agreement as the streaming provider bolsters its sports portfolio. The first matchup of the day includes C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Following that game, Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers visit Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

With a 10-1 record and three Super Bowl championships in the last five seasons, the Chiefs have accounted for four of the five most-watched NFL games this season, according to viewership data released by the league entering Week 12. Additionally, Netflix recently presented the bout between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, reporting that the event peaked at 65 million concurrent streams with an average minute audience of 108 million live viewers.

“We’re excited to be the first to partner with Netflix to help deliver these marquee games to the commercial market,” Alex Kaplan, chief executive officer of EverPass Media, said in a statement. “This partnership, along with other NFL content distribution, is a strong point of validation for EverPass as we continue to focus on bringing premium sports content to commercial businesses, revolutionizing viewership for rightsholders and business owners alike.”

EverPass Media launched in April 2023 and has worked with various entities to present streaming solutions and consumer engagement tools. The enterprise is designed to fuel growth for bars, restaurants, hotels, gyms and other commercial businesses. Outside of its agreements surrounding NFL programming, the company also works with NBCUniversal and its Peacock Sports Pass, facilitating presentations of games in the Big Ten Conference, Premier League and U.S. Open Golf.

The company has backing from RedBird Capital Partners and 32 Equity Investments, the latter of which serves as the strategic investment arm of the National Football League. Earlier in the year, TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), began investing in the company as well.

“Out of home viewership continues to be a contributor to growing audience figures, especially around the holidays,” Kaplan said. “Having this content is essential for bar and restaurant owners across the country, and we’re proud that we continue to build a robust content library and streaming platform to make accessing this content seamless for our customers. We look forward to working with Netflix on one of the biggest game days of the year to deliver these matchups to a wider audience.”

As Donald Trump gets set to move into the White House, OutKick founder Clay Travis believes it may be time for the outlet to focus time and resources on covering the administration.

In a post to social media, Travis shared that he believes the time is right to add to the team.

“I really think (OutKick) should get a reporter in the White House briefing room,” said Travis. “Our audience is bigger than lots of the outlets credentialed there.”

The comments from Travis come after the company had one of its largest months in the outlet’s history with 8.6 million unique visitors coming to the platform during October. OutKick had 31 million multiplatform views during the month, according to Comscore.

“Country Nights Live with Bev Rainey” will air seven days a week from 7:00 pm to Midnight. The debut is scheduled for Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in various markets across the United States.

Bev Rainey said: “I’m thrilled to be hosting ‘Country Nights Live’ and joining the Westwood One team. I appreciate the opportunity to work with the pros at Cumulus Country’s Nashville nerve center. Ken Carman: ‘There’s Going to Be Lots of Questions’ if Doug Gottlieb, Green Bay Don’t Win

Even though Doug Gottlieb was named the head coach of the Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team during the offseason, he has continued to host his weekday sports radio program and podcast with FOX Sports Radio. Gottlieb signed a contract that allows him to perform both endeavors as he balances his passions for coaching and radio amid the new season. While he did not have any Division I head coaching experience, he had previously worked on the sidelines for Team USA at the Maccabiah Games and also runs an Amateur Athletic Union program started by his father, Bob Gottlieb, the former coach of the Milwaukee Panthers.

The Phoenix men’s basketball team has started the season with two wins and five losses as the team looks to win the NCAA Horizon League Conference. A recent social media post divulging his daily schedule quickly went viral, which effectively begins at 10 a.m. for shootaround with his team. Outlining a typical road game configuration, he arrives back at the hotel at noon and begins taping his podcast at 2 p.m.

One hour later, Gottlieb is live on FOX Sports Radio and hosts his eponymous radio program until 5 p.m. Tip-off for the basketball game commences at 7 p.m., requiring him to make it back to the arena and prepare his team for the matchup. Anthony Lima, co-host of morning drive on 92.3 The Fan, discussed the arrangement within the ‘About Last Night’ segment on Tuesday’s edition of the program.

“Doug Gottlieb is not a former national radio personality,” Lima explained. “He is a current podcaster and national radio personality. Now you wonder how that works? Well, it’s in his contract.”

Ken Carman, who co-hosts morning drive with Lima, also keeps a busy schedule with his work at the radio station and FOX 8 News as its evening sports anchor. Recognizing this, Lima asked Carman his thoughts on Gottlieb’s agenda between his work in media and on the hardwood.

“Yeah, I appreciate it,” Carman said. “I appreciate it if he wins. I think there’s going to be lots of questions if they don’t. You put yourself out there, and then it goes, ‘Well, what are you really doing here? Do you just do this because you want to be around basketball and do you want to make your days more hectic or are we actually trying to win here?’”

Lima elucidated that Gottlieb has always wanted to coach at Oklahoma State, his alma mater with whom he stood out in NCAA play and helped the team reach the Elite Eight. Although he had interviewed for the school’s head coaching job, no deal was materialized, but he continued his pursuits of another position around the country. Green Bay plays two games against Cleveland State University this year, including a matchup at the Wolstein Center on Saturday, Jan. 25.

“On a Saturday?,” Carman exclaimed. “Well, you know where you and I are going to be. We are in, absolutely. Call the guys at Cleveland State now.”

Prior to the Cleveland State home game, the two teams face one another on Saturday, Dec. 7 from the Resch Center. Lima proceeded to ask his co-host whether they would be able to heckle Gottlieb by sitting behind the Green Bay bench for the late-January contest.

“I am going to get a transcript of a soliloquy he had,” Carman said, “and I’m going to read it verbatim behind his bench until he throws me out.”

Although the Sunday afternoon matchup between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers never involved any lead changes from Lambeau Field, the game drew strong viewership on FOX. The network reported that an average of 25.2 million viewers tuned in to the matchup on Sunday, rendering the most-watched telecast of the week on any network. Play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt, analyst Tom Brady and sideline reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi were on the call for the NFC matchup. The Packers attained a 28-point victory over the 49ers, the largest win against the 49ers in franchise history, and starting quarterback Jordan Love threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

On the season as a whole, America’s Game of the Week is averaging 25.3 million viewers, representative of a 9% year-over-year increase, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. This accounts for the strongest viewership performance by the broadcast property since 2016 and builds off momentum created leading up to Super Bowl LIX.

The NFL on FOX is in the midst of its 30th year broadcasting the National Football League, largely showcasing NFC matchups on a weekly basis. FOX Corporation is currently in the second season of a 10-year media rights deal with the NFL reportedly worth $2.25 billion annually. The company will present a broadcast of the NFC Championship Game leading up to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, La. early next year. Furthermore, FOX will begin new media rights deals with NASCAR, INDYCAR and the Big 12 Conference next year as well.

In early October, a Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers averaged 27.1 million viewers on FOX, which was indicative of an 11% improvement from the same week in the previous year. Both matchups were preceded by FOX NFL Sunday featuring Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson, Rob Gronkowski and Jay Glazer. Recent data from Nielsen Media Research demonstrates that the FOX Corporation generated the fifth-highest share of aggregated television usage in the month of October.

MediaCo Holding Inc. has announced it has fully repaid the $7.3 million convertible promissory note held by Emmis Communications. With the payment of the note, Emmis representatives have resigned from MediaCo’s Board of Directors.

In 2019, investment firm Standard General acquired Rhythmic Top 40 “Hot 97” WQHT and R&B 107.5 WBLS in New York for a total of $91.5 million in cash, alongside a $5 million note and a 23.72% stake in the newly formed company. Since then, Emmis has divested its ownership interest in this venture.

MediaCo President and interim CEO Albert Rodriguez said, “We are pleased to take this step forward. This eliminates our only near-term maturity and positions us to continue our expanding mission to reach diverse audiences and drive growth for the future.”

MediaCo has expanded its portfolio by acquiring Estrella Media’s content operations earlier this year. This acquisition includes the operation of twelve additional radio stations in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Riverside/San Bernardino, as well as the “Estrella TV” network and five television stations.

NESN to Launch FAST Channel

One month into the tenure of David Wisnia as president and chief executive officer of the NESN regional sports network, the company is preparing to launch a new FAST channel that will be distributed across the United States. NESN Nation will provide content surrounding Boston sports teams, such as the Red Sox and Bruins, to fans around the country as the network engages in a content strategy that builds on innovation and audience expansion. Revealing the creation of such an outlet coincides with the 40th anniversary of NESN broadcasting sports for the first time. The news of adding a FAST channel to the NESN portfolio was first reported by Anthony Crupi of Sportico.

Wisnia is succeeding Sean McGrail in the role, who worked for NESN over the 40 years it has been on the air. McGrail is continuing as senior advisor to the board of directors at the company as Wisnia takes on responsibilities of overseeing both NESN and SportsNet Pittsburgh. Prior to landing this new job, Wisnia held roles with FOX Sports, CBS and MGM Studios, but he had most recently worked as managing director at Alvarez & Marsal, a global management consulting firm.

“We will be launching a FAST network across the nation,” Wisnia said. “We haven’t announced exactly the time frame, but it’s something that we’re super excited about.”

Over the last several years, there has been a proliferation in free, ad-supported streaming television channels across the country. Roku created its own FAST outlet earlier in the summer, and MSG Networks introduced a FAST optionality to its offerings as well. Several popular sports programs, such as Up & Adams and The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, air on FanDuel TV and DraftKings Network, respectively, evincing synergies with sports betting companies. Paramount Global presents additional sports media content on its CBS Sports HQ FAST channel, along with its CBS Sports Network linear outlet. NESN is now slated to join the fold as it continues creating and producing new content disseminated through digital outlets.

“For now and the foreseeable future, our MVPDs are still great partners and they pay significant sums to carry our content,” Wisnia explained. “At the same time, digital is where the growth is, and it’s where the consumer is going. So, you’re running parallel paths and you’re transitioning over time as consumers transition over time and thus the focus is on controlling what we can control. Market dynamics are constantly going to be changing, so you pivot as need be, given those dynamics.”

NESN is co-owned by the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins and serves as the broadcast home for regional broadcasts surrounding both teams. The outlet reaches 4 million homes across nine designated market areas and is distributed on various cable and over-the-top media platforms. NESN launched a direct-to-consumer platform in June 2022, allowing fans to purchase subscriptions to view content from the network without a traditional cable television subscription through a multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD).

Newsmax in Negotiations to Add Kari Lake, Report Says

After losing the race for a Senate seat in Arizona, former local TV anchor Kari Lake is in negotiations to join Newsmax in an on-air role, a new report says.

Lake spent more than 20 years as a local news anchor at FOX 10 in Phoenix. After departing the station, she campaigned for governor of The Copper State in 2022. She continually claimed she did not lose that race and that rampant fraud was the cause of why she was not successful. Recently, she settled a defamation lawsuit brought forth by an Arizona election official targeted by the Lake campaign.

A report from Mediaite says Lake and Newsmax are in discussions for her to join the network in an on-camera role. The report also suggests both sides have claimed that negotiations are not happening.

Kari Lake responded by saying “Get better sources,” while a Newsmax spokesperson said, “We have had ZERO discussions with Kari Lake to join Newsmax.”

The report added that Lake would be of interest to Newsmax because she is “damaged” and “cheap” to hire after her back-to-back campaign losses.
