Kirk Minihane will not return as a full time member of WEEI’s morning show. He had taken a sabbatical from the show twice this year for mental health reasons. Last month he announced that he wanted to return but that Entercom brass was not letting it happen.
Today we have learned that Minihane will still have a home with Entercom, just not on the EEI airwaves. Instead, he will launch a new show, podcast, and column available exclusively through Radio.com. The new show will allow Minihane to delve into topics beyond the sports world.
Entercom President of Programming Pat Paxton said the move would be mutually beneficial for both Minihane and Radio.com. “His ability to entertain and engage is second to none, and there is no question Kirk will become a highly successful national audio personality. He already conquered Boston. Now on to the rest of the world!”
“I’m extremely excited to return to the air and reach a national audience, with greater autonomy to focus on a variety of topics, and even more digital platforms to connect with my fans,” Minihane said in a press release. “It’s been awesome to be part of WEEI and I know Gerry and Mut will continue to put on a great show. I want to thank the listeners for their patience and loyalty over the past several weeks, and I can’t wait to get started on RADIO.COM.”
As for the WEEI morning show, it will still be led by Gerry Callahan and Michael “Mut” Mutnansky. The show will be more focused on sports to better fit the rest of the WEEI lineup.
