As sports radio stations around town are bolstering their coverage in preparation for Eagles season, Sportsradio 94.1 WIP has secured the biggest draw in town – Chip Kelly.
Sources within the station confirm that the Eagles head coach will re-join Angelo Cataldi every Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. during football season for an exclusive 15-minute interview.
This will be the third year Kelly has joined Cataldi, whose interviews with the to-the-point coach have ranged from light to surprisingly tense. Last season, Kelly called Cataldi a “fair-weather fan” after recalling how the long-time host sent the club pies while the team was winning, then stopped after the Eagles lost a single game.
Nabbing Kelly for another season is an important ratings grab for WIP, as his weekly interview is reportedly the most listened to 15 minutes of the week for the station.
One program that won’t be returning this season is “The Howie Roseman Show,” thanks to the “promotion” of the former general manager to the role of Executive Vice President of Football Operations. Sources say the station is working on a new Eagles-related show to launch the first week of the season, but no details are currently available.
Both sports stations have worked hard to add former players to their broadcasts. In addition to current ex-Eagles hosts Hollis Thomas and Ike Reese, WIP is pairing Jon Runyan with Cataldi on Mondays following Eagles games this season.
Meanwhile, ESPN 97.5 The Fanatic is bringing back Brian Westbrook and pairing him with morning host Anthony Gargano. The Fanatic is also the home of “The Ron Jaworski Show,” hosted every Wednesday night by the ex-Eagles quarterback.
