Dan Shulman Joins Blue Jays Broadcast Team

The voice of Major League Baseball in the United States will add his native Canada to his list of broadcasting jobs after Rogers, the parent company of Sportsnet announced that Dan Shulman will call 30 Toronto Blue Jays during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Shulman, the voice of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball since 2011, will remain with the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” and continue to call baseball and NCAA College Basketball. The return to Canada is a homecoming of sorts for Shulman, who previously was the voice of the Blue Jays from 1995-2001 with Buck Martinez for TSN.

“I’d be lying if I said anything other than this is (a return home). There is a lot of sentimentality to this,” Shulman said. “I wouldn’t be doing 30 games in another city. This is home.”

Shulman was behind the mic this past October on ESPN Radio, calling the Blue Jays first playoff series since 1993 against the Texas Rangers and the American League Championship Series against the eventual World Series champions, the Kansas City Royals.

“Doing games in your hometown you have a real feeling about what is important to people,” Shulman added. “Having been through sports in this city for 30 years gives me a nice little bit of perspective”.

Former Blue Jays Pat Tabler and Buck Martinez will join Shulman in the broadcast booth for the 30 games he calls and Shulman will also make appearances on Blue Jays Central and other Rogers platforms throughout the season.
