WIP Wins The Month In Philadelphia

This holiday season, the folks at Sportsradio 94.1 WIP have a lot to be thankful for.

According to numbers obtained by Philly.com, morning host Angelo Cataldi and afternoon host Josh Innes increased their ratings leads in the November period, helping lift the station to second place overall in the market (6 a.m. – 12 a.m.) with a 7.9 share. All numbers are in the coveted men 25-54 demographic.

ESPN 97.5 The Fanatic came in tied for third overall in the market with a 6.0 share.

Cataldi, who had seen his lead narrow over Fanatic morning host Anthony Gargano in recent months, exploded with a 9.2 share, a 16 percent increase from the October ratings period, finishing second in the market for his 6-10 a.m. time slot. Gargano ended up in third place with a 7.4 share, a small increase his October performance.

During the midday time slot, WIP’s combo of Michael Barkann and Ike Reese continued its dominance over The Fanatic’s Rob Ellis and Harry Mayes, but its ratings slid by 8.3 percent down to a 7.7 share for November for its 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. timeslot. That dropped the duo down from second place in the market to fourth place (due in part to WBEB’s jump to second place, thanks to the station’s annual switch to Christmas music).

Still, Ellis and Mayes were only able to hold on to the 4.0 share they earned last month, good enough for just eighth place in the market.

In the most vocal and bitter ratings battle, WIP’s Josh Innes and co-hosts Hollis Thomas and Spike Eskin ended up in first place in the market with an 8.7 share during their 2-6 p.m. time slot, beating WMMR and topping The Fanatic’s Mike Missanelli for the ninth straight month. Missanelli duplicated his October performance with an 8.1 share, good enough for a tie for second place.
