620 WDAE in Tampa has made a change in middays. The station today launched a new program “Ron and JP” from 12p-3p, which features the team of Ron Diaz and JP Peterson.
Diaz has been a fixture on WDAE’s airwaves for the past 12 years, spending the majority of those years working alongside former Bucs Offensive Lineman turned broadcaster Ian Beckles. Beckles left the station last month to pursue other opportunities. He told the Tampa Bay Times “It got to a point where I needed a change. I’m not going to lie, money had something to do with it, but I think I’m just ready to start a new chapter.”
Peterson meanwhile has covered sports in the Tampa Bay area since 1997 and has hosted Tampa Bay Rays pre and post-game shows for 620 WDAE. He also hosted mornings on 790 The Zone in Atlanta with former Falcons Tight End Alge Crumpler and has experience doing field reporting for NBC’s Football Night in America and NBC’s coverage of Arena Football.
