WDFN Adds Gregg, Droo and Jim To Afternoon Drive

We teased in our ‘Under The Radar‘ section last week that additional local programming was coming to Detroit. Today, that information was revealed in the Detroit News.

WDFN (1130 AM) will start airing a local weekday program from 3p-6p that features market veteran Gregg Henson, alongside Drew “Big Droo” McCarthy, and Jim Costa. The show will also be simulcast on WMAX (96.1-FM) in Grand Rapids. An official announcement will be made tomorrow morning on the radio station by Matt Shepard.

“I’m extremely excited to return to where it started for me,” said Henson, who will do the broadcast  from Pittsburgh, where he has a show on Pittsburgh’s ESPN affiliate. “DFN has always been home and I’m hoping we can make some noise in both markets.”

The news comes less than two months after Greater Media elected to drop the sports format on WMGC 105.1FM. Ironically, Sean Baligian who hosted the morning show on 105.1 was replaced by Costa in Grand Rapids in October 2015 when he left for Detroit.

Henson certainly has a deep history in Detroit. He helped launch WDFN in 1994, and served as program director until 2002. He now gets the opportunity to rebuild the brand and turn it into a strong competitor against market leader 97.1 The Ticket.
