KNBR, CSN Bay Area To Air 3rd Inning of Vin Scully’s Last Game

Vin Scully is heading down the homestretch of his Hall of Fame career. The longtime play by play announcer of the Los Angeles Dodgers has announced he will exit the broadcast booth for the final time at the end of the 2016 regular season, but before he does, L.A’s top rival, the San Francisco Giants have something special planned for him.

To honor Scully’s legendary career, the Giants’ flagship radio station KNBR, and local television station CSN Bay Area, will air Scully’s call of the 3rd inning of the regular season finale between the Giants and Dodgers on October 2nd.

The eighty eight year old Scully, has broadcast Dodgers games for 67 years. He’s also announced 25 World Series matchups, and was in the booth for the NFC title game between the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys on January 10, 1982, a game known for ‘The Catch’ when Dwight Clark hauled in a Joe Montana pass for the game-winning touchdown.

Scully will not extend his broadcast career for a Dodgers playoff run. He said he didn’t want to say goodbye like they do in grand opera, where there are 25 goodbyes in 15 minutes. Instead he’s comfortable with one final stop in San Francisco and then riding off into the sunset.
