WEEI and NESN Make a Difference For The Jimmy Fund

WEEI, NESN and the Boston Red Sox teamed up for the 16th annual Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon and together they raised just over 4 million dollars for the fight against cancer. Since 2002, the three parties, along with support from the Boston community, have combined to raise over $49 million dollars for cancer research.

The two day affair included guest appearances from a number of notable Boston sports figures. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Red Sox chairman Larry Lucchino and team president Sam Kennedy all visited with Kirk and Callahan. Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, Red Sox players Chris Sale, Jackie Bradley Jr., Mookie Betts, and Andrew Benintendi, and Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke with Ordway, Merloni & Fauria. And the afternoon show with Dale Arnold, Michael Holley and Rich Keefe were joined by Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs, Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca, Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, Red Sox chairman Tom Werner, Red Sox manager John Farrell, Red Sox players Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts and Chris Holt, and former Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon.

Sports executives and athletes though were not the only ones to appear on the station’s shows. The station welcomed a number of doctors, patients, and cancer survivors to share their stories of courage, struggle, and faith. A number of high ranking political figures also appeared including former Secretary of State John Kerry, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker, and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. Academy Award-winning actor Casey Affleck, and television personality and Massachusetts native Maria Menounos who recently battled a brain tumor also checked in as well.
