Sean Jones and Jayson Braddock Out at Sports Talk 790

The Houston sports radio scene continued its overhaul on Monday.  Within the last month Entercom’s Sports Radio 610 and Gow Media’s SportsMap 94.1 and ESPN Houston have all retooled their weekday lineup, now KBME (790 AM) is making their second major change since May.

On Monday, hosts of The Bottom Line with Jones and Braddock were informed by the iHeartMedia owned station that their show would no longer be broadcast on Sports Talk 790.  Jayson Braddock and former defensive lineman for the Houston Oilers, Sean Jones, worked together on the station’s afternoon drive show for the last 11 months.

“I got a message (Sunday night) that we were meeting at 2 p.m. Monday, and it was pretty easy to read the writing on the wall,” Braddock told David Barron of the Houston Chronicle.

“They met with us at the same time for less than a minute, and all they said was, ‘Guys, I’ve got news, and it’s not good news for you two. We’re going to go in a different direction.’”

Just over a month ago, Sports Talk 790’s afternoon drive program was a three-person show with Adam Clanton joining Braddock and Jones.  Clanton, however, was let go by the station after a disagreement with morning host Josh Innes went public.  Following the incident, Innes was suspended, but has since returned to his morning show.  Clanton joined Sports Radio 610 this week as a fill-in host.

Innes also instigated a suspension for Braddock this past February.  Braddock was critical of Innes after antics with Sports Radio 610 host Seth Payne that led to the station being removed from radio row at the Super Bowl.  Braddock was placed on an “assignment” that took him away from his afternoon show for two weeks.

After learning of the show’s cancellation, Braddock took to Twitter, expressing appreciation to their fans, “Thank you to the wonderful people of Houston for allowing me to talk sports (with) you in the afternoons over the last 11 months. My most enjoyable moment was being able to celebrate an Astros championship.”

Permanent replacement hosts have not been announced, Monday’s show was filled by Michael Connor, Chris Gordy and Ross Villarreal.
