Brian Hanley to Exit Score Morning Show

Robert Feder is reporting that WSCR in Chicago is going to drop Brian Hanley from its morning show. He has been partnered with Mike Mulligan since 2005. The duo has been the morning show on The Score since 2008.

Breaking up Mully and Hanley is the latest in a series of shake ups to the Score’s weekday lineup. Earlier this year, the station made changes to its midday and afternoon shows.

Brian Hanley will remain with the Score in a reduced role. He will work weekend and fill in shifts. As for who will take his place in the morning, Feder says a favorite has already emerged.

Sources say the top choice to succeed Hanley from 5 to 9 a.m. weekdays is Chicago Tribune sports columnist David Haugh.

Haugh has been with the Chicago Tribune since 2003. He has been in his columnist role since 2009.

  1. Pretty shocking news. Isn’t the Score morning show their number one show? David Haugh? I think Lawrence Holmes should have been given that shot. Holmes’s style is much better suited for the morning than the evening. They should move Lawrence up two mornings and find someone funny to put on at night.

  2. Sorry to hear this…m and h is my favorite show. ( 70 year old lady). I’m sorry to have McNeill back, but don’t care for Parkens much either. Guess I’ll have to go back to wfmt!

  3. I was shocked of this terrible news as well. M&H is my favorite show and I get up at 3:00 am Pacific Time, so I can listen from the start each morning. I have been fortunate to attend a few of the M&H “Boys Night Out” years back and have a few pops with Brian and the crew at other various events. Hanley is a top shelf guy. They just removed a cornerstone from the station.

  4. Mully & Hanley was not broke, so why fix it? That said, David Haugh will be fine. They should’ve moved the very successful Spiegel & Parkins to drive time afternoons instead of adding loudmouth Dan McNeill.

Only problem then would be middays. Jason Goff and Dan Bernstein were a terrible pairing. Bernstein needs someone who ‘gets’ him and encourages his nerdy takes but also doesn’t take him too seriously. Zach Zaidman would’ve been perfect. And, maybe Bernstein is just wrong for midday. Lawrence Holmes and Conor McKnight would be very strong in that slot, I think.

  5. They should have let Mulligan go. “It’s interesting.” “I find it fascinating.” “Um, Um Um.” He takes two minutes to ask guests questions that could take two sentences. Holmes and Bernstein should switch as Holmes is actually interested in talking about sports.
