Chris Haynes is leaving ESPN for Yahoo Sports. Haynes was thought to be one of the most sought after sports media free agents available. A number of outlets were covering his job search. It wasn’t a media outlet though that broke the news. It was NBA All-Star Damian Lillard.

Hiring Chris Haynes would prove that despite the departure of Adrian Wojnarowski and his staff from The Vertical last summer, and the recent departure of Shams Charania, Yahoo is still very serious about its NBA coverage. Haynes has a reputation for developing and maintaining close relationships with players. He could put Yahoo right back in the breaking news game.
