Former ESPN and current Washington Post NFL writer John Clayton will soon launch a subscription based website according to a report by Ryan Glasspiegel of The Big Lead. Very few details are known at this time, but The Big Lead’s source says the site will be ready “within the next few weeks” and will be supported by subscriptions. As for what the site is, Glasspiegel does have a description of what Clayton hopes to do.
Clayton’s vision for the site, according to the source, is coverage of gambling, fantasy, injuries, scouting and contracts, as well as traditional news and commentary, produced by a combination of experienced football reporters (including ESPN alumni) and people who held jobs in and around the NFL (agents, doctors, coaches, front office employees, etc).
Glasspiegel notes that the plan does not sound that different from The MMQB, which was started and anchored by Peter King, but also featured content from other writers. A firm price point for subscriptions is being kept under wraps for now, but Clayton reportedly hopes to keep the price below $10 per month.
