The Houston Rockets and iHeartMedia announced an extended partnership which will see SportsTalk 790 AM continue to serve as the team’s flagship radio station.

The future for both iHeartMedia and the Houston Rockets looks very bright,” said Eddie Martiny, iHeartMedia Region President. “I’d like to thank (Rockets CEO) Tad Brown, (General Manager) Daryl Morey, (team owner) Tilman Fertitta, and the entire Rockets organization for providing Rockets fans a team that annually competes for championships.”
Craig Ackerman will begin his 11th season as the Rockets play-by-play voice, calling all home games on the radio and away games on television. Longtime public address announcer and midday host for SportsTalk 790, Matt Thomas will be on the radio call for road games, while continuing to serve as the team’s in-arena voice for home games. Thomas began contributing as a part-time play-by-play announcer for the Rockets during the 2012 season.
“We couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming season of Rockets basketball and are glad to continue our partnership with SportsTalk790,” said team CEO Tad Brown. “Craig Ackerman and Matt Thomas are an incredible one-two punch for Rockets fans to enjoy throughout the season.”
As part of their agreement, iHeartMedia will carry pre and post-game shows, with some games being simulcast on News-Talk KTRH. SportsTalk 790 has been the Houston Rockets radio home since 2012. The Rockets tip-off regular season play on October 17 in a home game against New Orleans.
