Georgetown University and The Team 980 WTEM have announced a partnership which will feature Hoyas’ men’s basketball on the station. After spending the last three seasons on 106.7 The Fan, Georgetown returns to WTEM, who previously carried Hoyas’ basketball for nearly two decades until 2015.
“It is a blessing and an honor to be reunited with the Georgetown Hoyas,” said Urban One Inc. Chairperson Cathy Hughes. “John Thompson will always remain my favorite coach of all time. So happy he and Head Coach Patrick Ewing will be joining us!”
Urban One, which purchased The Team 980 in May, also owns the station that served as the original flagship for Georgetown basketball, WOL 1450. At the time, Rich Chvotkin was the Hoyas’ play-by-play voice, a position he will continue to fill as he enters his 45th season calling Georgetown men’s basketball.
“The Georgetown men’s basketball program is excited to be a part of The Team 980 WTEM family,” Ewing said in a statement. “We look forward to working together for many years to come.”
The Hoyas will begin their men’s basketball regular season on the road against Illinois November 13th.
