It seems Bob McCown isn’t the only Rogers Media employee losing his job. The afternoon host’s exit from SportsNet 590 the Fan is part of a larger, company-wide strategy of “repositioning for the future.”
The Media Confidential blog reports that the new strategy means an unspecified number of layoffs are coming to the company across multiple platforms. Rogers did not comment on the specific number of people that would be effected.
Rogers Communications, which owns SportsNet and its parent company Rogers Media, is best known in Canada as a wireless, cable, and internet provider. The media division is considering how it will deliver content to consumers in the future as it faces competition for audience and advertisers in multiple media spaces.
