ESPN will follow in the footsteps of outfits like NPR and the New York Times and launch a daily podcast this October. Ben Strauss of The Washington Post reports that Mina Kimes has emerged as a potential host.
Norby Williamson, ESPN’s Executive Vice President, told Strauss that the new podcast won’t be an audio version of SportsCenter. “It’s not news and highlights.”
The show will instead feature a number of reporters. The goal is to create a show that focuses on feature reporting, highlighting trends in sports, and news coverage. ESPN posted a job listing to find a producer for the show earlier this month.
The name of the show will be The ESPN Daily. Senior coordinating producer Andy Tennant says listeners can expect each episode to run 18-25 minutes. He promises that it is “going to be appointment listening for anyone interested in the world of sports.”
