TV Exec Names 7 NFL Players With Broadcasting Future

Richard Deitsch began his “Media Circus” column for The Athletic with a question to an anonymous sports television executive this week. What current NFL players is he keeping an eye on for potential work in the future? The executive gave Deitsch seven names.

  • Drew Brees
  • Larry Fitzgerald
  • Eli Manning
  • Greg Olsen
  • Phillip Rivers
  • Richard Sherman
  • Ben Watson

Some of these names are very interesting. Only Richard Sherman isn’t nearing retirement, so it is possible the opportunity could come sooner rather than later for most of these names.

It also feels appropriate to see Greg Olsen’s name on this list. The Carolina Panthers tight end has called two games for Fox already, using bye weeks to get experience. He recently told media members that it felt like the end of the road when he left the locker room after the Panthers’ final media availability of the season. He has also reportedly been considered for a role on Monday Night Football in each of the last two offseasons.

Deitsch did not identify who he spoke with. The only hint he would give is that he “hires broadcasting talent for multiple sports”.
