After teasing the podcast nearly one month ago, Boston sports radio icon Gerry Callahan returned to the airwaves this week. The former WEEI morning host launched The Gerry Callahan Podcast on Monday, Jan. 6.
After two decades in morning drive on WEEI, Callahan was let go by the station’s parent company, Entercom in July. The longtime radio host announced his new venture last month while appearing on a podcast hosted by his former WEEI partner Kirk Minihane. Minihane left the Kirk and Callahan Show in late 2018 and joined Barstool Sports after parting ways with Entercom last May.
For the podcast’s first episode, Callahan was joined by another former WEEI personality, Alex Reimer. Reimer, who left the station in August to join the State House as Director of Communications for Senator Eric Lesser, previously sat next to Kirk and Callahan as the third voice of their WEEI show.
The debut episode of The Gerry Callahan Podcast encompassed pop culture, sports and politics. Callahan has outspoken conservative political opinions, while Reimer offers liberal takes as the two discussed the United States conflict with Iran.
Episode 2 featured Minihane, as the former co-hosts looked back at their time as a popular and polarizing duo on terrestrial radio in Boston, and their current gigs as podcasters. Both episodes were approximately 90 minutes, with Callahan planning to release four shows per week.
