Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year contract to not play basketball. After landing the richest deal in the history of American team sports, the Chiefs dominant quarterback joined afternoon hosts Carrington Harrison and Sean Levine on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City to discuss the contract.
The most important variable in Mahomes’ ability to receive the maximum payout of $503 million from the Chiefs will be health. So Levine asked the 24-year old quarterback if there’s any specific activities the contract forbids of the Chiefs superstar.
“I still don’t think I’m allowed to play basketball,” Mahomes said. “I’m sure baseball is not going to be allowed as well. I know there are a lot of [activities off limits]. They have everything from like jet skiing to…it’s pretty much every physical activity you can possibly do. I’ll probably be sticking to football and video games for awhile now.”
Mahomes can’t drive a jet ski, he also likely isn’t allowed to jump over one the way Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson did last month.
Even after signing a deal for more than a half-billion dollars, Mahomes told Harrison and Levine he just wants to be himself.
“It’s never been about the money to me. It’s been about going out there and having success and building a legacy and doing it the right way. And I feel like now, I have that security knowing that the Chiefs believe in me and they believe in me long term. I can go out there and be the person I am on and off the field and have that trust and belief in me the whole time.”
