Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has signaled the death knell for network television during his latest podcast.
While recapping comments made by former Disney CEO Bob Iger at Code Conference, O’Reilly opined that network television’s days were numbered, noting NBC’s rumored talks about eliminating one hour of primetime programming.
“They’d give that time back to the local stations because nobody is watching network entertainment. Nobody’s watching. It’s gone. Over. Stunning. When I grew up, that was it. Tens of millions of people would watch Mary Tyler Moore, All in the Family, Happy Days. Now? Nothing. It’s all about naked people on some island running around. I think that’s gonna happen. I think NBC is gonna say nobody watches Jimmy Fallon so we’re gonna move him up to 11:00 PM, give an hour to the local stations to do their news earlier from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM or 10:00 PM to 10:30 PM and run syndicated programming.”
O’Reilly agreed with Iger’s comments that streaming is the future. He also announced a deal with Vidgo, a streaming competitor of YouTubeTV, Sling, and HuluLive, earlier this week.
