President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to sit down on Friday in hopes of negotiating a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine. Networks like CBS News, Fox News, NBC News, and NewsNation have all announced plans to cover the meeting.
On Friday, both President Trump and Putin will meet in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, in an attempt to broker a peace settlement.
It won’t be the first time high-profile dignitaries are in the city. In 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping stopped in the city after meeting with President Trump. Meanwhile, Chinese and American officials met in the city in 2019 for what turned out to be a tense meeting, leading to public insults lobbed by both sides.
The meeting will take place at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, a military base that merged a previous Air Force and Army base in 2010.
The meeting between the two leaders has already drawn plenty of television news coverage. Below are the broadcast plans for how some networks plan to cover the meeting.
CBS News
John Dickerson is set to anchor CBS Evening News from Anchorage on both Thursday and Friday as President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet in the Alaskan city.
Dickerson will be joined by Face the Nation moderator and chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, as well as chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes, during the coverage.
Maurie DuBois will remain in New York, leading the in-studio coverage, discussions, and analysis during the nightly newscast.
Former Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan, former Department of Homeland Security official Samantha Vinograd, and former National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. HR McMaster will all contribute to the network’s coverage.
Willie James Inman, a White House reporter for CBS News, will also be in Anchorage for the coverage. Meanwhile, senior foreign correspondent Debra Patta will be based in London for the international reaction to the meeting.
Fox News
Bret Baier will anchor the 6 PM ET newscast on Special Report on Friday from Anchorage. He will also feature an interview with President Donald Trump from Air Force One on the journey to Alaska.
The first portion of the interview will air on Fox News tomorrow afternoon, and then again on Special Report at 6 PM ET.
He will then interview Trump on the flight back to Washington, D.C., after the meeting with Vladimir Putin. That interview will air on Saturday on Fox News.
Meanwhile, Sean Hannity will host his primetime program from the Alaskan city on both Thursday and Friday. He will also feature a discussion with the President, with that conversation slated to air on Friday evening during his 9 PM ET program.
NBC News
Tom Llamas is set to anchor NBC Nightly News and the NBC News NOW program Top Story from Alaska on both Thursday and Friday.
In Anchorage, he is being joined by Peter Alexander, Garrett Haake, and Monica Alba to provide coverage of the meeting.
NBC News NOW — the network’s streaming news platform — will break into coverage as needed throughout the day on Friday to provide updates. Additional coverage will be made available on NBCNews.com.
NewsNation
Blake Burman is set to host a two-hour live report from 10 PM to Midnight ET on Friday.
Included in the coverage will be the White House correspondent Kellie Meyer live from Anchorage, while Robert Sherman will be in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Hill and NewsNation Political Editor Chris Stirewalt will also contribute from the network’s Washington, D.C. studios.
Before the two-hour special hosted by Burman, NewsNation will feature special editions of The Hill, Elizabeth Vargas Reports, and a two-hour edition of On Balance with Leland Vittert from 8-10 PM ET.
Throughout the meeting, NewsNation will feature live updates on its app, as well as analysis for what the conversations mean for the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
