AI Agents Now Execute Audio Buys. Here’s Why It Matters.

"We're constantly exploring new opportunities for brands to connect with audiences at scale and pioneering new ways to modernize audio advertising, making it more accessible, efficient and effective,"

Date:

Butler/Till and iHeartMedia just closed the advertising industry’s first agentic streaming audio campaign. This marks the first time AI-powered systems executed premium audio inventory purchases.

What We Know Butler/Till launched the inaugural agentic media buy for a U.S. agricultural solutions company. The AI-driven campaign delivered streaming audio 42 percent more efficiently than traditional direct buying methods. Additionally, the agentic approach placed 48 percent of podcast impressions in premium mid-roll slots versus 33 percent in the traditional plan. Meanwhile, iHeartMedia plans to expand agentic buying to broadcast radio later this year.

What They Said “We’re constantly exploring new opportunities for brands to connect with audiences at scale and pioneering new ways to modernize audio advertising, making it more accessible, efficient and effective,” said Lisa Coffey, Chief Business Officer for iHeartMedia. “This industry-first agentic campaign demonstrates how AI can help create a more dynamic and efficient marketplace while maintaining quality and accountability our partners expect from iHeart.”

What Remains Unclear Key questions persist about broader adoption across the agency and network landscape. Furthermore, industry standards for agentic buying governance remain undefined at this stage. Yet the potential impact on traditional media workflows could fundamentally reshape team operations. Also unclear: how quickly competitors will introduce competing agentic solutions.

What It Means Agentic media buying signals the next evolution in advertising technology evolution. Instead of following preset workflows, AI agents now evaluate campaign objectives dynamically within defined parameters. Consequently, advertisers gain faster optimization and real-time responsiveness without sacrificing strategic control. Ultimately, this approach combines machine speed with human judgment.
