WQAM Launches LeBron-A-Thon

South Florida sports radio station WQAM is hoping a charity drive can help convince LeBron James to stay with the Miami Heat.

The station’s “LeBron-A-Thon” will donate 100 percent of proceeds to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County. It’s the same charity that benefited to the tune of $2.5 million back in 2010, when LeBron donated proceeds from the “Decision,” his announcement on ESPN of his signing with the Heat.

On Tuesday, it was announced LeBron was opting out of his contract with the Heat and would become a free agent. The move was “fully expected” by the team, Heat President Pat Riley said in a statement.

Former Miami Dolphin Channing Crowder, co-host of WQAM’s “Kup & Crowder Show” with NBC 6’s Adam Kuperstein, has already donated $1,000 to the “LeBron-A-Thon.”

“I appreciate the four years, and as a sports-talk radio guy it makes my job ten times more fun to have LeBron here,” Crowder said. “We know he loves Boys and Girls Club because of the first decision.

“We want to let him know the fans do appreciate him minus all the haters out there.”

Everyone who donates is eligible to win a pair of tickets to the 2014 Miami Heat home opener.
