ESPN Radio’s Evening Show Plans

Jalen Rose and Dave Jacoby are nearing completion on a deal to host a nightly weekday show on ESPN Radio from 7-9pm ET, multiple sources tell TBL. When the Jalen and Jacoby talks were in their infancy, there was some worry about how much time Jalen could devote to the show during NBA season, when he is most busy and his insight is most valuable. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out. Perhaps other Grantlanders might get some reps filling in when Jalen has TV pre-game responsibilities?

An ESPN spokeswoman declined to comment.

As Richard Deitsch reported Friday, Bomani Jones will be moving from 9-11 to 4-7pm. Sources indicate that negotiations on that front were occasionally contentious the past few weeks, but the deal ultimately got done. Nevertheless, Bomani at 4-7 and a new terrestrial radio show with Jalen and Jacoby have been in the works since Danny Kanell joined Ryen Russillo in mid-August.

Jorge Sedano will likely be sliding into Bomani’s slot. There’s a possibility that Sarah Spain — who’s been Sedano’s cohost filling in for the later afternoon spot vacated by Dan Le Batard (and soon occupied by Bomani) — will join the show if negotiations pan out. Spain is a writer for ESPNW, has been hosting a weekend ESPN Radio show with Prim Siripipat, and joined ESPN Chicago in 2010. Also, when basketball season starts up, look for Sedano to start appearing on ESPN’s NBA Tonight as both a host and pundit.

We’ve heard that a target start date for the new ESPN Radio lineup is September 28th, though one source said that timeline “sounds ambitious.”
