Darling To NESN? Remy Says No!

Jerry Remy disputed, emphatically, reports that emerged today that NESN is considering bringing in current Mets announcer and former pitcher Ron Darling to its broadcast booth next season.

“It’s 100 percent not true – it ain’t happening, that’s what I’ve been told,” said Remy this afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Since news broke last month that NESN was replacing longtime play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo with radio voice Dave O’Brien, there has been considerable speculation that NESN might want to change the role of color commentator Remy.

Last month, NESN president/CEO Sean McGrail told Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald that “Jerry’s in our plans for next season. He will be on the telecasts. We haven’t finalized that, but he will be involved.”

Asked if that meant Remy would be in a reduced role, McGrail said, “We don’t know yet. We’re working through that. We weren’t going to talk about that until October, but he will be with us for sure.”
