Munn, D-Backs Agree To Part Ways

Diamondbacks fans won’t be hearing a familiar voice during the 2015-16 season.

Jeff Munn, the pregame and postgame radio host and occasional play-by-play fill-in, and the team have agreed to part ways.

Munn wants to pursue his passion of full-time play-by-play. When he met with team executives about a contract extension during the summer, they recognized that he didn’t seem fulfilled with his career direction. They told him he could stay but encouraged him to chase his dream.

“I was grinding away hard at the job but wasn’t getting enough personal satisfaction,” Munn said.

Munn has been with the Diamondbacks since 1996, two seasons before the franchise took the field. He has been a finalist for several Major League Baseball play-by-play jobs in recent years.

He is also the voice of the Arizona State women’s basketball team and the stadium announcer for the Fiesta and Cactus bowls.

Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall said he understands Munn’s desire to seek a new opportunity and “we fully support his wishes and stand ready to assist him in any way we can.

“We are deeply grateful to him for his long run of service to the franchise, as he will remain a part of the soundtrack of our history.”

Munn’s voice has been heard at a variety of events, including the 1993 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the 1995 NBA All-Star Game, the 2000 WNBA All-Star Game and 2001 World Series.
