Pirates Looking At Veteran Play-By-Play Announcers

Veteran broadcaster Andy Masur, who lists two major league clubs on his resume, appears to be a finalist for the job in the Pirates’ radio/TV booth, industry sources told the Tribune-Review.

Tom Hart, who works for ESPN and the SEC Network, also has interviewed for the job. Hart was the play-by-play announcer for the Tennessee Smokies, the St. Louis Cardinals Double-A affiliate, from 2002-06.

Joe Block, who has called Milwaukee Brewers games the past four years, also has gotten an interview.

The Pirates had more than 200 applicants for the position that opened in December when Tim Neverett left to work for the Boston Red Sox. The field of candidates has narrowed, and a decision could be made by the first week of February.
