The date has been set. Next Monday May 16th, Bill Simmons will join Mike Francesa on WFAN as his partner for the entire broadcast. Francesa’s producer Brian Monzo shared the news on Twitter.
Simmons last appeared with Francesa as a guest in October, confirming that the two high profile media stars had discussed teaming up on a permanent basis when Chris “Mad Dog” Russo left WFAN in 2008.
The real question going forward is, will this relationship evolve into something deeper? Francesa has stated he will leave WFAN after 2017, and Simmons has shifted from ESPN to create his own media company. Whether or not the right role and resources will be available to create room for Francesa remains to be seen.
