Bleeding Green Nation has produced one of the most popular blogs in Philadelphia, while developing a strong following for its podcast. What started with an average listenership of 300 people, grew to a base of 13,000 fans, with some episodes earning as many as 30-35K in total listeners.
That buzz helped BGN’s John Barchard and Brandon Lee Gowton land a weekly spot last year on 97.5 The Fanatic. But for 2016, they’ll be broadcasting from a brand new address.
Sports Radio 94WIP announced today that they have added BGN to their weekly programming schedule. The radio station will dedicate a two-hour show on Saturday’s to Bleeding Green. The timeslot is yet to be determined. Barchard will host the show, and it will include guest spots by Gowton and other BGN related writers.
“We are very humbled and grateful that Spike Eskin and SportsRadio 94WIP sought us out to be a part of their programing this year,” said John Barchard. “To be a part of the station that created sports radio in Philadelphia is truly an honor and I can’t tell you how excited we all are to walk into that building. Spike gets us and as podcaster himself, I think that really helps. He sold me on coming over to WIP almost immediately. I don’t think I’ve met someone that is so easy to communicate with and has a deep understanding of where the radio industry is and also where it needs to be going. This a dream come true. When we started the podcast three years ago I don’t think we ever had this in mind even though it’s something we all really wanted.”
The BGN Radio Show will also be available as a podcast on CBS’ digital platform play.it. Along with the addition of the BGN Radio show, John Barchard has been hired by 94WIP to be a part of the on-air staff.
