Esiason Ready To Move Forward Without Carton

Craig Carton resigned last night from WFAN, leaving New York sports radio listeners interested in hearing Boomer Esiason’s response to the situation. Carton’s on-air partner of the past 10 years addressed the situation on Thursday morning, on a program which is now being branded “The Morning Show with Boomer.”

After the program began, Esiason discussed the issue and said that he thinks Carton is making the right move. He mentioned that his former partner needed to concentrate on his case and family, and he was supportive of him.

“By resigning I believe he takes a lot of pressure off of all of us here at WFAN, his co-workers and everything else. I heard the statement from (station vice president) Mark Chernoff and I don’t know what else to say. He’s got to get his life in order. He’s got to get it right.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if someday, somewhere, somehow, he’ll be behind a microphone. I don’t know where. I don’t know when. I don’t know if I’ll be a part of that or not. But I do know that he has resigned from WFAN, so that chapter at least, the ‘Boomer and Carton’ chapter, is now closed, and we, as I said last week, kind of have to move forward. We’ll try to deliver the best shows we know how to do, and we’ll talk about all the things that sport fans in the greater New York area want to delve into.”

The former NFL quarterback went on to inform listeners and viewers that the signs inside of the studio promoting the duo had been changed to remove any inference of Carton. He acknowledged that it was a sad day because it signaled the official end of ‘Boomer and Carton’ and the exit of one of the greatest radio personalities Esiason had ever heard or been around.

Jerry Recco hosted with Esiason this morning. Phil Simms and Brandon Tierney have also sat in to host the show. CBS Radio confirmed Wednesday night that a search for Carton’s replacement would begin immediately.
