LeBron James move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers may not make the most sense from a basketball standpoint, but when you learn that King James will have three shows on cable by the end of the year, it becomes plain as day why it is important for him to be in LA right now.
James’ HBO talk show The Shop debuted earlier this week to rave reviews. It is the first of two projects he is working on for the network. His NCAA documentary Student Athlete premiers in October.
In the NBA James’ talents can only be utilized by one team. That’s not the case in the content creation business. Today HBO’s competitor Showtime dropped a teaser trailer for another project produced by James called Shut Up and Dribble.
The documentary series focuses on athlete activism, particularly in the NBA. The title is taken from a line Fox News host Laura Ingraham said about LeBron James after he was critical of President Trump on an ESPN digital series.
Speaking of ESPN, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that soon-to-be-former ESPN staffer Jemele Hill shows up in the trailer for Shut Up and Dribble. Hill has been at the center of conservative media criticism multiple times in 2018.
