Turner officials are discussing the possibility that this will be the final season Marv Albert serves as the marquee voice of the NBA on TNT according to Andrew Marchand of The New York Post. Albert is scheduled to call conference finals games and the NBA All Star Game again this season, but that could be the last time he receives those assignments.
Albert still has two years left on his deal with Turner. There is no discussion of ending that deal prematurely. Turner is merely discussing moving Albert off its top line events for the 2019-20 season.
Brian Anderson, according to Marchand, has emerged as the favorite to replace Marv Albert. The name is a surprising one. Anderson is already a part of the Turner Sports family, serving as their lead MLB play-by-play man. He has no strong play-by-play presence for the NBA though. He has called a small number of national games and served as the sideline reporter for the San Antonio Spurs for seven seasons.
Anderson currently calls 15-20 NBA games for Turner every year. If he does become the lead play-by-play man, it would mean Turner passed over Ian Eagle and Kevin Harlan.
