Armen Keteyian Joins The Athletic

A full-on pivot to video may not be on the horizon for The Athletic, but video is clearly in the company’s future. Armen Keteyian is the latest to write a “Why I’m Joining The Athletic” essay. In it he announces that he will serve as an anchor and executive producer for the site.

So much for the site’s original stance that quality writing would be enough.

That being said, if The Athletic is starting a video department, it probably can’t do much better than Keteyian as a jumping off point. The 11-time Emmy winner has worked as an investigative reporter for Sports Illustrated, ABC News, CBS Sports, Real Sports, CBS News, 60 Minutes and 60 Minutes Sports. In his essay, Keteyian notes that The Athletic is his new exclusive home.

Keteyian is also bringing two former colleagues along for the ride. Alan B. Goldberg and Victor Frank, both Emmy winners for their work with ABC and CBS respectively. Keteyian writes that the group is open to giving other content creators a chance to work on projects for The Athletic‘s new video department.

I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished in my career. But I can honestly say I’ve never been more excited than to be offered the opportunity to help build something from the ground up. With that in mind Alan, Vic and I want to make clear our door is wide open to people with a passion and hunger for storytelling that will engage our subscribers at every level of sport and live up to our exacting standards.
